Jaw pain can be caused by TMJ disorders, teeth grinding (bruxism), jaw injury, arthritis, muscle strain, bite problems, or dental conditions. A thorough examination by a TMJ specialist helps identify the underlying cause and determine the most effective treatment.
You should consult a TMJ specialist if your jaw pain persists for more than a few days, is severe, or is associated with jaw clicking, jaw locking, difficulty chewing, headaches, facial pain, or limited mouth opening. Early diagnosis can prevent the condition from worsening.

Jaw pain treatment depends on its cause. Treatment may include customized TMJ splints, jaw exercises, medications, physiotherapy, lifestyle modifications, and minimally invasive procedures. Most patients with TMJ disorders can be treated successfully without surgery.

Yes. TMJ disorders are one of the most common causes of chronic jaw pain. Inflammation or dysfunction of the jaw joint and surrounding muscles can lead to persistent pain, stiffness, jaw clicking, and difficulty opening or closing the mouth.

Mild jaw pain may improve with rest and self-care, but persistent or recurring jaw pain should not be ignored. Identifying the underlying cause early allows appropriate jaw pain treatment, reduces the risk of long-term complications, and helps restore normal jaw function.
