Where the Internet goes Wrong about TMJ

I recently came across a Reddit post about AI suggesting a treatment plan for TMJ clicking. This raised an important point about the strengths and limitations of AI in the field of healthcare, especially a niche field such as TMJ.

The post talks about how a certain tongue and jaw position suggested by AI helped a few people “practically cure years of TMJ clicking”.

TMJ clicking is an indication of your disc moving out of its place in the joint. It indicates the malalignment and poor co-ordination between the condylar bone and the disc.

A changed jaw movement is bringing the condyle in the place of the displaced disc. Hence, the clicking disappears in some cases. But, this is not bringing the disc back in its original position. In fact, it is bringing the condyle into an abnormal position.

This can cause more harm than good for your underlying TMJ disorder.
